New field: Northern Bunny

As you can see, I haven't updated this blog for a while and it's not being updated anymore as I have moved to a new one to work on, which is Northern Bunny. What I'm doing on the new field is pretty much the same as what I did here, introducing bands I discover, but it's gonna be more filled with images and videos and I believe much info as well. Rent Boys available at File-Under Records!

何度かこのブログで紹介しているイギリスはリーズ出身のガレージサイコパンクバンドRent Boys。
彼らの2ndシングルLive That Wayと先月リリースされたばかりの3rdシングルShoot Your Shotが名古屋のFile-Under Recordsさんで入手可能です！

入荷されたのが数週間前のことなので
両方とも在庫がかーなーりわずかとなっています。気になる方は今のうちにゲットだ！

As the title explains all, the Leeds-based garage punk band Rent Boys are waiting for you, at Japanese record store File-Under Rrcords in Nagoya, to come and pick them up and have fun at yours together. Well, simply, their 2nd single 'Live That Way' and brand-new 3rd single 'Shoot Your Shot' are now available at the record store, File-Under Records in Japan. I'm not a liar and I am telling you a truth, both singles are nearly sold out. Be quick! especially in a case you live in Japan.

Brown Brogues

These guys are one of young up-coming bands that you definitely should see live at least once. In my case, one time was not enough.
今回紹介するのは、様々なフェスやイベントでプレイして今イギリスで徐々に注目を集めてきている若手。かならず一度は生で見てほしい、聞いてほしいオススメバンドです。

Do you know a band called Brown Brogues?
Brown Brogues(ブラウン・ブログズ)というバンド知ってますか？

Brown Brogues are young two piece emerged from Manchester. Mark Vernon on vocals and guitar, and Ben Mather on drums.
最近服屋さんやファッション雑誌でもよく見る、オックスフォードシューズやゴルフシューズ、あれがbroguesです。スコットランド・アイルランド訛りのこともbrogueと言うらしいですが、きっと茶色い靴を意味しているように感じます。そんなBrown Broguesはイギリス有数の音楽街としても名高いマンチェスター出身。ボーカル・ギター担当のMark Vernon、かなり限られたセットのドラムを叩くBen Matherの２人組。

The simple bass-less formation duo brings you a pretty lo-fi garage sound which would remind you of some great influential garage bands such as Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall and Black Lips. Also I should probably mention Coachwhips as another good influential figure since I felt, when I first saw Brown Brogues live, John Dwyer might be one of their musical heros.
楽器はギターとドラムだけのシンプル構成な彼ら。とある記事でNo-Fiとまで言われてしまうくらいに極限に削られたかなりローファイなガレージサウンドを聞かせてくれます。インディー系のガレージが好きな方なら、彼らの曲を聞いてすぐにThee Oh Sees、Ty Segall、Black Lipsなどを思い浮かべる人も少なくないはず。実際に、ボーカルのMarkはJohn Dwyerが凄く好きなようで、お気に入りバンドにJohn DwyerのかつてのプロジェクトCoachwhipsも挙げているくらい。身体の高い位置に固定されたギター、マイクをくわえ込む勢いで奇声を上げる姿、タンクトップから覗く年齢の割には沢山入っている上半身のタトゥー、そんなステージ上のボーカルMarkを見れば、John Dwyerの影響を大きく受けていることがすぐに分かる。(John Dwyerの場合はマイクを思いっきりくわえ込んでいるけども。。)




They’ve released three singles on 7” apart from their hand-made CDr ‘A Night Of Living Sickness’ which is already sold out. Two singles entitled Wild Man and Don’t Touch My Hair were released in 2011 and both can be heard on their bandcamp. And in February, their new single ‘Anyone But You’ was launched through London-based label Italian Beach Babes Records. Pysical single is available on Italian Beach Babes' bigcartel and digital one is available on iTunes.
Brown Broguesは今までに、手作り感たっぷりな見た目が素敵なCDrのA Night of Living Sicknessを除いて、３枚の７インチシングルをリリース。2011年に発売されたWild ManとDon’t Touch My Hairは彼らのbandcampにて視聴可能！Don’t Touch My Hairは既に完売しているようですが、bandcampにてダウンロードできます。そして先月２月には、彼ら３枚目のシングルとなるAnyone But Youが、ロンドンのレーベルItalian Beach Babes Recordsから発売。Italian Beach Babesはイギリスで今人気を集めている若手バンドMazesやNOVELLAもレコードリリースをしたことがある注目の新興レーベル。ニューシングルのAnyone But Youはレーベルのオンラインショップ(bigcartel)、またiTunesでもゲットできます。




They’re currently in US doing their first-ever tour in America, and coming back to England and playing in London on the 18th April at The Garage and I am going. yippie!
彼らは現在、初となるアメリカツアーの真っ最中。９日にAustinでプレイし、今月２２日と２３日には２日連続NYでライブの予定。そしてイギリスに戻って1発目のギグはロンドン。初のUSツアーを終えた彼らが、以前イギリスで見た時とどう変わっているのかが楽しみ！

BITCHES

Don’t you think girls on drums are sexy?
There’s this fascination of mine to like two-piece bands formed with drums and guitars/bass guitars such as Death From Above 1979, Blood Red Shoes and the Leeds legendary That Fucking Tank. When drummers also sing, it gets me more. When drummers are girl, I can’t help myself to be a fan of them. They’re simply cool and sexy. A band I’d like to introduce this time is one of those two-piece bands with a female drummer.

Do you know a band called BITCHES?

Sweet name indeed. Let me be honest with you now. When I first heard their name, I visualized a punk band with four guys wearing leather studded jackets as it’s such a straightforward band name that gives you a strong impression with a little defiant attitude. “Bitches? Mm, they must be a punk band.” Stereotype in my head made me react like that, but as soon as I pressed a play button to listen to their music, I broke my very first image of them which was totally wrong.

女の子のドラマーってかなりカッコ良くないですか？
個人的に原因解明不可能な程に惹かれてしまうバンドの要素があったりする。それがドラムとギターかドラムとベースのみで構成されている２ピースのバンド。例を挙げれば、Death From Above 1979とかBlood Red Shoesとか、LeedsのレジェンドThat Fucking Tankとか。みんな楽器はドラムとギターかベースのみ。そのうえドラマーがシンガーの役目も担っているとなれば、個人的にはもっと惹かれるわけで。そのドラマーが女の子となれば、もうファンにならずにはいられなくなるわけで。女の子のドラマーはとりあえずカッコいいし、セクシー。そんなよく分からない音楽的フェチ（？）を持つ私が今回紹介したいのは、２ピース構成の女の子ドラマーが居るバンド。

さて、ここで質問！

BITCHESというバンド、ご存じ？

名前がなんとも覚えやすい。正直な話、初めてこのバンド名を見た時はパンクバンドを想像してしまいました。鋲打ちの革ジャン着たお兄ちゃん４人組のパンクバンドちゃうんか、と。パンクバンドにありそうな名前してませんか。シンプルだけど、ちょっとした反骨心が垣間見えるような印象に残る名前。そんな思い込みのイメージも、BITCHESの音楽を初めて聞いた時に崩れ去り、自分の第一印象があまりにも間違っていたことを認識。と同時に、新しいお気に入りバンド発見した！と気分も上々。

BITCHES, crawling out from London, are twosome who brings you breaking eardrums lo-fi garage sound. The band was formed in 2009, after their first gig in 2008, with a boy and girl, Blake on bass and Staz on drums. I can’t deny that their three features are important elements, only in my case, to be a fan of them which are two-piece, their instruments (drums and bass guitar), and girl on drums. However, only one listen was required to discover that now I have a new favourite band. Such a dulcet moment it is when you find new bands to add to your everyday playlist! If you like lo-fi garage sound with powerful drumming, riffy bass sound playing a principal role in the music, and also screaming and yelp, BITCHES are for you.

イギリスはロンドン出身・拠点とするBITCHESは2008年の初ライブを機に、2009年にベースにBlake、ドラムにStazを迎えて結成された２ピースのバンド。女の子が叩いているとは思えないヘビーなドラム音と、主役級の存在感を醸し出すベースが生み出す耳の鼓膜が振動するようなローファイガレージサウンドに彼ら特有のスクリーミング(雄叫び？) が上手く織り込まれたのがBITCHESのサウンド。雄叫びとは言っても、ハードコアなものでは全くないので、荒削りなガレージ＋パンクが好きな人にはオススメ。

They receive love calls not only from their habitat but also from US, and they’re now on their first US tour after sharing musical experiences with some American bands such as Foot Village, Yuppies and Shellshag by playing together and releasing split records. BITCHES’ split 12” record with Yuppies, released through Palmist Records as a second release from the label’s project of featuring up-coming new bands, is something crucial.

ロンドン出身の彼らですが、今まで一緒に音楽活動をしてきたバンドはUSバンドも多く、Foot VillageやYuppies, Shellshagといったアメリカのローファイガレージ系のバンドと一緒にスプリットアルバム・シングルをリリースしたり、サポートバンドとして一緒にツアーをしたりと、アメリカのバンドからのラブコールもよく受けているよう。そんな彼ら、現在はUSA Fun Tourと命名されたいかにも楽しそうなＵＳツアー中で、今までLon AngelsやSan Franciscoでライブをしたことはあるものの、ツアーとしてアメリカへ渡るのは今回が初となる。BITCHESが今までリリースした音源（レコード・カセット含め）で特に注目したいのが、Yuppiesとのスプリットアルバム。イギリス・ブライトンのレコードレーベルPalmist Recordsによる、若手バンドを集めて２組ずつのスプリットアルバムを出しちゃうプロジェクトの第２弾目がBITCHESとYuppiesなのです。

BITCHES are on it’s A side and it includes 8 songs of them. Out of their 5 releases, this split 12” has most numerous songs and that’s pretty much why I recommend you to try as your first choice. But, their self-released first single WINNERS shouldn’t be ignored as it contains three tracks that cannot be heard on the split 12” with Yuppies…
そのYuppiesとのスプリットアルバムのA面がBITCHESで、計８曲入っており、彼らが今まで出した５つの音源の中で１番収録曲が多いので、単純にファーストトライとしてオススメ出来るレコード。ですが、個人的にオススメなのは2010年に彼ら自身の手によってセルフリリースされたシングルWINNER。このシングルの収録曲は先ほどのYuppiesとのスプリットアルバムには入ってない上に、B面２曲目のCan Not Loveが一緒に歌えちゃうほどノリやすくていい感じの曲。ライブでも必ずと言っていいほどプレイされる個人的にお気に入りの曲。

For those who are not decisive and debating between the two records, here’s good news! BITCHES are releasing their first EP in CD format next month, the 18th March through Gravy Records! Well, it’s not announced yet which songs are on the EP, but this is a good chance to start listening to BITCHES. Good timing and good artwork.
